Clear Skies

Seasonal depression is no joke in Seattle. Once the clocks fall backward in November it’s hard not to get caught in a monotonous cycle of gloomy days. Unparalleled rain and limited daylight slap the positivity out of you with the perpetual onslaught of Pacific Northwest weather patterns. Their persistence is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced from Mother Nature and it takes immense willpower to make it through the dreaded Seattle winter.

For almost twenty years I’ve let seasonal depression run its course on me without question. The five-month period of rain and darkness becomes a new normal that I have no choice but to accept – wasting every rainy day hoping the next will improve.

Yet the one thing I’ve learned from this vicious cycle is that you can’t wait for clear skies; you have to find them yourself.

While there is so much negativity associated with Seattle winters, there is also plenty of positivity if you take the time to recognize it. A little patience and reflection could mean the difference between wasting five months and living them to their full potential.
