The Jump

Taking the leap never crossed my mind. All I could fathom was the road beneath my tired feet. The long, dreary road that beckoned for me to follow its course.

The road had a sticky surface. One that threatened to trap my feet with every additional step. It was as if the road was freshly paved and I was unknowingly walking through the new asphalt. I shouldn’t have been so ignorant but there was something about the road that persuaded me onward.

My ignorance continued. What seemed like a landscape lying peacefully under clear, blue skies was quite the opposite. My eyes were numb to the ominous forest that surrounded the road and trapped it in a dense fog. Still, I followed the sticky path through the persistent darkness.

Until one day the forest opened up to reveal a stunning image. One of clarity, serenity, and excitement. The fog gave way to brilliant sunshine that spread like a blanket across expansive waters. Suddenly I was freed from the thick forest and my gaze met anxiously with the distant horizon. Suddenly the road released its sticky grasp. Suddenly I had a choice.

So I jumped and never looked back.
